Introducing Kevin Hayden 2026 Hall of Fame Inductee

As we begin 2026 we are recognizing each of our Hall of Famers with short bios put together by some of our esteemed alumni and spearheaded by fellow Hall of Famer Kurt Kuhn.  Today we recognize Kevin Hayden (2009-2012)

Kevin Hayden and his siblings started lacrosse early. Kevin literally learned to walk with a lacrosse stick in his hand. He continued playing in local youth lacrosse programs until high school when he played for James Madison HS in Vienna, Va.

Kevin was one of the most dynamic offensive players to ever wear the maroon and orange. He established himself as a cornerstone of the Hokies’ attack. He was a four-year starter, two-time captain, team MVP, and multi-year scoring leader. In addition, he received recognition by the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) in 2010 becoming a First Team All-Conference Attackman. He finished his career with 160 goals and 70 assists. Those 230 points had Kevin retire as the all-time leading scorer in VT’s program history. Fourteen years later, his 160 goals still ranks him in the top 20 of goal scorers in MCLA Division I history. His combination of size, skill, and competitive fire helped elevate Virginia Tech to national prominence and left a lasting mark on the program’s offensive tradition.

After leaving Virginia Tech, Kevin continued sharing his lacrosse knowledge and skills by becoming an assistant coach at Atlee High School, located just outside of Richmond, for five years. In those five seasons, Atlee went on to five straight 5A state championship lacrosse games. In addition, Kevin continued to play lacrosse in the Richmond Summer Lacrosse League for 12 years.
