Hokies Sweep the Weekend with Key Wins Over NC State and ECU
Blacksburg, VA — It was a big weekend for Virginia Tech Lacrosse as both the Division I and Division II teams came away with impressive victories, completing the program sweep and building momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
In a pivotal ALC divisional matchup, Division I rallied past NC State, 12-8, to secure a spot in the ALC Tournament. The Hokies got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 2-0 early and finishing the first quarter tied at 2-2. The Wolfpack regained a 4-2 edge early in the second, but Tech responded in dominant fashion — rattling off six unanswered goals to seize control and never look back. From there, the Hokies maintained the four-goal cushion and closed out the win with composure and grit.
“I’m really proud of how we responded after a slow start,” said Division I Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. “We’ve talked all season about staying poised and trusting our system. When we settled in and played our brand of lacrosse, we showed what this team is capable of.”
On the Division II side, the Hokies came out firing against East Carolina, building a 4-1 lead early before exploding for a 12-2 halftime advantage. ECU showed some fight in the second half, but the damage was done as Tech rolled to a 13-7 win. The result marks another strong performance for a D2 squad that continues to improve each week.
“Our guys came ready to go from the first whistle,” said Division II Head Coach Joel Smith. “We played fast, we played unselfish, and we took control early. It’s exciting to see the team grow and execute at a high level.”
Both wins reflect the depth and commitment of the Virginia Tech Lacrosse program, and set the tone for a strong finish to the 2025 season.
