Hokies Sprint By the Vols

by Panchito Ojeda

Blacksburg, VA - Returning home for alumni weekend and senior night, the Hokies wasted no time jumping out to an early5-0 lead en route to a 15-3 victory.

Before the game the team took a moment to honor each of the team's 13 seniors. After the team went 1-1 on last week's road trip they were hungry to get back into the win column. Attackman Jared Cole ('24) started the scoring off an dime from linemate Aidan Smith ('24). The Hokies defense was on lock down as goalie Will Eckert ('23) made three first quarter saves and blanked the Vols to a 5-0 lead.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Hokies got some faceoff wins from Joel Smith ('23) and Bobby Savage ('24) and extended their lead to 9-1 at the half.  The third quarter, the Vols turned up their defense and the game could be best described as sloppy as both teams only mustered 1 goal to go into the final frame 10-2.  On senior day, the Hokies would not be denied as they added 5 more to Tennessee's 1 to finish the game with a 15-3 victory.

"We played incredible defense today and held a good Volunteer squad in check." stated Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. "Our offense was able to feed off this incredible defense as they exhibited excellent patience. It was a good strong win from our squad and continued our mission towards and ALC Championship."

The Hokies are back in action on April 6 versus #11 Concordia.
