Hokies Snag Wins Over East Carolina, Miami (OH)

Blacksburg, VA - The Hokies welcomed divisional foe East Carolina to Blacksburg on Friday in an interdivisional matchup with implications for the Atlantic Lacrosse Tournament on the line.  The winner, walks away with a chip in their pocket.  The Hokies came out on top winning 18-5 before downing Miami (OH) on Sunday 17-2.

The game started out in a methodical pace as the Hokies and Pirates traded possessions.  Some outstanding goalie play by the Pirates kept the Hokies at bay, but at the end of 1 the it was 4-0 VT.  In the second the Hokies began to pull away lead by Aidan Smith ('24, 4G, 3A) and Jared Cole (3G, 1A) to get to a 10-2 halftime lead.  It was more Virginia Tech in the second half as the Hokies pulled away to win the game 18-5.  Goalie Will Eckert had 5 saves on 7 shots and sophomore Andrew Wickman turned away 4 on 7 shots.

On Sunday the Hokies faced a Miami (OH) team fresh off an overtime win against East Carolina on Saturday. In freezing temperatures and sideways rain the Hokies found a way to push forward as they took and early 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter. In goal the Hokies were lead by Will Eckert who let in 0 goals while stopping 3.  Andrew Wickman ('25) and Aidan Stevenson ('25) each let one in while recording 3 saves.  Offensively the Hokies were lead at by Grayson Barker ('23) and Dan Weber ('24) who each had 1G, 1A.

The Hokies are now 4-0 but face #6 Liberty on the road in their first Top 10 matchup of the season. Gametime is set for 1pm.
