Hokies Down #10 Concordia In Home Finale

by Panchito Ojeda

Blacksburg, VA - The Hokies hosted #10 Concordia-Irvine in a late season battle between top 10 opponents.  In a tight game the Hokies came out on top 14-11.

The Golden Eagles opened up the scoring jumping out to a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter before the defense lead by senior netminder Will Eckert locked it up for the remainder of the half. Offensively, the Hokies broke through when freshman midfielder Jake Blibaum struck twine with just 1 second left in the 1st quarter. In the second quarter the Hokies would use their stout defense to generate some break and they would find the back of the net 4 times to lear 5-2 at the half.

Concordia would not go quietly as they opened the third quarter with three quick ones to tie the game at 5-5 with 11:14 to go in the quarter.  The Hokies would respond with a 5-2 run to go up 10-7 heading into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth the two teams traded goals before the Eagles cut it to 11-10.  A couple of defensive stops coupled with some excellent rides had the Hokies up 14-10 with 4 minutes left.  The Eagles would get one more on man-up before the Hokies were able to run out the clock.

"This was an excellent team win." stated Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. "Concordia is one of the toughest opponents we have seen this year and players all over the field answered the bell and competed.  This is a great way to kick off our April as we continue to compete for an ALC and MCLA Championship."

The Hokies will be on the road on April 15 against divisional foe NC State. Faceoff is set for 2pm
