Division I Squeaks By UConn

The Virginia Tech Men's Lacrosse Division I squad delivered a commanding 13–7 victory over UConn Men's Lacrosse, showcasing a complete team performance on both ends of the field.

From the opening whistle, the Hokies controlled the tempo. Offensively, the duo of Jake Blibaum and Tanner Snow proved too much for the Huskies to handle. Blibaum poured in 3 goals and dished out 2 assists, demonstrating poise and vision within the offense. Snow matched the intensity with 4 goals and 1 assist of his own, consistently finding space and finishing with confidence.

While the offensive production was impressive, the game was truly dictated at the faceoff dot. Jack MacKenzie turned in a near-perfect performance, winning 22 of 23 draws. His dominance gave Virginia Tech repeated possessions and allowed the Hokies to control pace, momentum, and field position throughout the contest.

Defensively, Virginia Tech was stout and disciplined, surrendering just 7 goals in total. The unit communicated well, slid with purpose, and forced tough looks all afternoon. The defensive effort, combined with MacKenzie’s work at the X, kept UConn from ever finding sustained rhythm.

Head Coach Panch praised the collective effort after the game.

“This is what our CULTURE is built on — hard work, preparation, and trusting the guy next to you,” he said. “When we share the ball the way we did today and compete for every inch like Jack did at the faceoff dot, we’re tough to beat. It’s not about individual stats. It’s about playing for each other.”

The win provides strong momentum as the Hokies now turn their attention to a major test: a Friday matchup against #3 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks Men's Lacrosse. The contest will serve as an early measuring stick and a key opportunity for Virginia Tech to prove itself against one of the top programs in the country.

Go Hokies.
