Division I Heads to Boston for Critical Weekend Against Boston College and Northeastern

Blacksburg, VA — The Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse Division I team will travel north to Boston for a pivotal weekend of competition on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, facing two of the strongest programs on their schedule in back-to-back matchups.

The Hokies will open the trip on Friday night against Boston College, a Top 10 ranked program that enters the weekend undefeated and playing some of the most complete lacrosse in the country. The matchup presents a major early-season test for Virginia Tech as they square off against a nationally respected opponent on the road.

“This is exactly the kind of opportunity we want,” said Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. “Playing top teams in their environment forces you to rise to the moment. It’s a great measuring stick for where we are and where we want to go.”

The Hokies will then turn around and face Northeastern on Saturday, a team that has already built an impressive resume this season with signature wins over Florida and UCF. With two games in two days, Virginia Tech will be challenged both physically and mentally throughout the trip.

Beyond the competition, the Boston trip represents something bigger for the Hokies program.

At Virginia Tech, the program consistently emphasizes CULTURE—a commitment to brotherhood, accountability, and showing up for one another in big moments. Road trips like this provide the perfect setting for teams to grow closer, lean on one another, and reinforce the identity the program is built upon.

“Trips like this are about more than lacrosse,” Ojeda said. “They’re about CULTURE. Long travel, tough opponents, and playing back-to-back games creates the kind of environment where teams either grow stronger together or fall apart. Our expectation is that we grow.”

The Hokies understand the significance of the opportunity in front of them. Playing two quality opponents in one weekend gives Virginia Tech a chance to test itself against elite competition while building momentum heading deeper into the season.

For the Hokies, the message is simple: embrace the challenge and seize the opportunity.

“This team has a lot of belief in one another,” Ojeda added. “When you get the chance to compete against great programs, you don’t shy away from it—you run toward it. That’s the opportunity in front of us this weekend.”

Virginia Tech will face Boston College on Friday, March 20, followed by Northeastern on Saturday, March 21, as the Hokies look to make a statement during their Boston road trip.
