DII Splits Weekend Series, Shuts Out Elon 16-0
BLACKSBURG, VA – March 30, 2025 – The Virginia Tech Division II Men’s Lacrosse team wrapped up a doubleheader weekend with a strong bounce-back win, blanking Elon University 16-0 on Sunday after a tough 10-6 loss to Wake Forest on Friday.
The Hokies were anchored by outstanding goaltending throughout the weekend, with Justin Cole, Andrew North, and Hayes Reger combining to keep the team competitive and ultimately pitch a shutout against Elon. The defensive unit stepped up across both contests, while the offense found its rhythm on Sunday with a balanced team effort—multiple players contributed to the scoresheet in a well-rounded attack.
“We saw a lot of resilience from the group,” said Head Coach Joel Smith. “After a tough loss on Friday, the guys responded the right way. It was a complete performance against Elon, especially on the defensive end.”
With the weekend split, the Hokies look to close out the regular season on a high note as they host William & Mary on Saturday, April 5. The final home game will be preceded by a Prospect Clinic from 9:00–11:00 AM, offering high school athletes a chance to learn from and play alongside members of the VT program.
