D2 Makes History in 2025 Campaign
BLACKSBURG, VA — The Virginia Tech Men’s Division II Lacrosse team wrapped up a historic 2025 season with a 9-5 record and a series of firsts that have solidified the program as a rising force in the MCLA.
The Hokies notched their first-ever playoff win with a dominant performance over App State in the ALC Quarterfinals, followed by a thrilling upset over #6 UNC Charlotte to earn their first appearance in both the ALC Final Four and the ALC Championship Game. While the team ultimately fell short of a national tournament bid, the season marked a watershed moment in the program’s trajectory.
“This group made history — plain and simple,” said Head Coach Joel Smith. “They believed in each other, fought every week, and raised the standard for what Virginia Tech D2 lacrosse can be.”
Several standout players from this roster will transition to the Division I team next year, a testament to their development and potential. At the same time, a strong core remains, and with new recruits set to join in the fall, the Hokies expect to return to contention in 2026.
Special recognition goes to Coach Jack Gradle, whose leadership of the defensive unit resulted in one of the most formidable defenses in the MCLA this year. The team’s resilience, unity, and growth were on full display throughout the season.
With program momentum at an all-time high, Virginia Tech D2 Lacrosse is poised for another exciting run in 2026.
